We are located in Park Gate, just off Junction 9 of the M27

Initially you will be invited for a consultation visit. This is a chance for us and your dog(s) to meet and to confirm the booking if we are all happy. We can also discuss any issues you may like us to work on. A deposit will be payable if a reservation is agreed.

The Mutt House began trading in March 2010 and is licensed as a boarding establishment by Fareham Borough Council and we receive regular inspections from them. We are delighted to announce that in April 2019 we were upgraded to:-

A 5 Star rated Boarding Premises for up to a maximum

of 6 dogs from different households.

We also have a number of other boarders locally who are licensed by their relevant council and who just take referrals via The Mutt House and operate under our insurance. The size of their property and their own choice dictate how many dogs they can have togehere. Again, they are inspected by their Council and monitored by us as we carry out the administration and paperwork for their bookings and visit them regularly. We provide backup, advice and support whenever necessary.

Colin and Nickys' previouss experience was mainly with larger breeds (Rottweilers and Dobermanns) and we are delighted with our success in improving behaviours and problem areas with stronger type breeds. However with our time and experience in this business, we have had most breeds and sizes of dog here on holiday and numerous owners have commented on better behaviour, improved heel-walking, more confidence (or more respect) when with other dogs. The most common observation is how much calmer their pets are after a stay with us.

Sadly many dogs do not benefit from early socialisation and interaction with others. This may lead to an anxious owner who then fears meeting other dogs when out on walks and this feeds back to their dog thus increasing the anxiety levels of all concerned. By sharing our home with differing breeds, often from three or four households, such issues can be overcome within a matter of hours. We do however insist that any dogs booked to be here at the same time are assessed by us in advance for their suitability together. Where we identify potential issues we may swap you to one of our other local boarders who has fewer dogs or just one at a time. We can hopefully find you a space and put you in direct contact with them. We strive to never turn a customer away without trying to help, in the hope that they will try us first in future.

If you require more serious training or behaviour work, we are pleased to offer this service, but at an additional cost which would be agreed at the consultation.

In addition, when we are too busy with boarding reservations, we have access to Kevin Wrigley (www.armchairdogs.co.uk), a Southampton based qualified behavioural trainer (Post-graduate diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling from Southampton University). He runs dog training classes locally and uses force-free methods which we have found amazingly simple and extremely effective. Kevin helped us train our own Rotti, Zulu, and he achieved "Top Dog" status by the age of 10 months and anyone who knew Zulu would endorse his immaculate behaviour, attitude and temperament with people and other dogs. We beieve that when owners or trainers remain calm and assertive around thier pet, this gives the benefit of learning in a calm environment. Fun and enjoyment is a must when getting your dog to learn and retain new commands or behaviours. We use titbits, favourite toys and praise as motivation and reward for desired behaviour. Dogs of all ages and sizes respond well if it is a fun session.
